Sports
Children need to play sports. In addition to building physical strength, sports are a vehicle for emotional and development growth. Best of all, kids love sports! In orphanages around the world, children play soccer, even when the field is a dusty courtyard or a crowded street and even when the "ball" is a rag-covered rock.
WWO has formed important partnerships to ensure that children living in orphanages have sports opportunities like those of children everywhere. We have partnered with Right to Play and UNICEF, and have developed an Orphan Soccer League in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and have six orphanages involved. The opening games were played in the Ethiopian National Stadium to an enthusiastic crowd. More soccer leagues are planned, and at all WWO orphanages, sports equipment, bicycles and uniforms delight the children and help them stay healthy.
