Early Intervention Programs
WWO Early Intervention (EI) Programs are transforming the lives of more children in more countries throughout the world. The program addresses many of the issues institutionalized children face: failure to thrive, developmental and language delays, and attachment disorders. The WWO Early Intervention Program is based on the understanding that when a child has a relationship with one caring, loving, attentive adult, that child does well developmentally, physically and emotionally. Six programs in Bulgaria, two in Azerbaijan, and two in Vietnam are currently engaging children in an individual relationship with a loving adult, while more programs are planned for Ethiopia, Kenya and China. Whether they are called "babas" (in Bulgaria), "aunties" (in Vietnam) or "kind hands" (in Azerbaijan) the local volunteers grow to love the children in their care as only a grandparent could.
At present, four Early Intervention Programs in Bulgaria are completely sponsored by the generosity of Robert Brenner, Nadine and Jim Hartnett, Janet and Howard Kagan, and Ramyne and Garry Spire.
